World Breast Pumping Day

Every time I turn on my social media I feel like there is another day being celebrated for something. I don't participate in them all, but when I do, it's because I truly feel connected, pun intended. Today happens to be World Breast Pumping Day and I happen to be at work connected to my pump! So, naturally, I had to post.

If you're not yet in that 4th and onward trimester, you may be asking what would a pumping at work schedule look like. So, today, I am going to share mine.

I don't keep myself on a rigid schedule each and every day of the work week. I very much keep things in line with the timing of Stella's feedings and what time she woke up which dictates what time I fed her last. So, for example if she wakes up at 7 am, here is what my schedule looks like:

  • 7 am breastfeed

  • 10 am pump

  • 1 pm pump

  • 4 pm pump

  • Breastfeed when I get home

  • Breastfeed after her bath and before her bedtime story

  • Then it's every 3 hours from then which is usually 10 pm, 1 am, 4 am, 7 am. Again, it varies depending on her schedule.

At work, I tend to pump every 3 hours. It takes me about 15 minutes to do it all from sitting down to washing my parts and storing my milk. I know it's not easy for a lot of moms, but I truly don't find it to be a bother. I love knowing that I'm giving my daughter the best there is. Yes, fed is best obviously, but breast-milk most certainly has the best nutritional and long-tern effects for your baby. It's a controversial topic and I know some women simply can't breastfeed. I am sympathetic to that. Please, no hate mail!

If you hate pumping, I would urge you to try a different pump. It should not be uncomfortable or hurt. You might also have your settings too high or your flange size may need to be adjusted. Your body is every changing, mamas. Pay attention to it.

Happy World Pumping Day!!!
