My 32-Week Scare

Updated: Jan 16, 2019

We are in the home stretch my 4 F'ers! I am officially 32 weeks and I can feel my #babybump growing by the day with every stretch and kick she graces me with. If you've been following my journey, you know that it's been a pretty good and stress-free pregnancy. Woo Hoo! That is, up until last week when I had a scare. Talk about paranoia and worry! Thank you all for all your kind words and support on my IG! It really means so much to me.

So, what happened? It all started one day after work. I was feeling very sore. Much more than usual. I haven't had to miss any work due to pregnancy issues and I didn't want to start now. So, when I got home I took a warm bath, put my legs up, and relaxed. Eric has been doing most of the household duties the last several weeks, so I can't attribute my pain to anything at home. He's been a God send. I went to bed and ended up not sleeping a wink because of the unbearable cramping I was having. I was lying on my left side, like all the blogs and doctors say. That didn't help. I got up to walk around, that didn't help. I initially thought, it was braxton hicks contractions but they kept getting worse as the night went on. I was moaning and groaning as I tossed and turned and told myself that if it didn't go away, I would go to my OB office first thing in the morning.

So, the next morning, that's what I did. My doctor took me in right away with no appointment. Mind you, I am seeing a high-risk pregnancy doctor because I am 37. I told them my symptoms and they sent me directly over to labor triage in the hospital. It didn't take long for them to take me in. The nurse was welcoming and greeted my by name as soon as I walked in. She immediately took some samples then hooked me up to a fetal monitor that was wrapped around my belly.

They monitored and examined me for a couple of hours to see if I was indeed having contractions, dilated, check the movement frequency of the baby, her heart rate along with my heart rate and stress levels. I was so scared that I was crying silently when I was left in the room by myself. After lying there for what seemed to be an eternity, they released me back to my doctor since I wasn't having contractions, Thank God! They sent off my results for more examination and advised my doctor that I need to rest for the rest of the day and the following day. Not my idea of a vacation or staycation for that matter. But, I complied and Eric was happy to take care of me and let me rest. He's the best.

That next Monday, I called my doctor for the results first thing in the morning and they said the results came back negative, which was a good thing. But I was having pain in my pelvis and when I went to see them again for a work release, I explained to them that the cramping was gone but I was now having these severe pains that make it very challenging to walk, sit, stand, climb stairs, get dressed, exercise etc.; Basically unable to function like a normal human being. They asked me more questions and diagnosed me with diastasis symphysis pubis and said that some people get it so badly that they have to use a walker. OMG! I'm totally crying now.

I immediately started looking it up to see what I could do to help my newly found condition. According to What To Expect, here is what they suggest, which falls in line with my doctor's suggestions:

  • Wear a pelvic support belt. Thanks to Belly Bandit I have one and can wear it immediately!

  • Do your Kegels and pelvic tilts. Regular practice helps strengthen the muscles of the pelvis. I've been doing these several times a day.

  • Avoid triggers. Sit down to get dressed, and avoid heavy lifting and pushing (which you should be steering clear of anyway).

So, there you have it! My 32-Week Update/Scare. Have any of you other mamas gone through this? What did you do to alleviate the pain? How long did it last? I would love to hear your thoughts on how you overcame this and any advice you can give this #newmom.
