Fringe, feathers and a fierce attitude are the key components to slay your way into festival season. The growth rate of festivals is rapidly climbing which makes room for more fashion statements. Music festivals such as Coachella, Stagecoach, and Made In America, are the runways for festival goers to show off new festive trends. There is no rubric on what to wear to festivals, but being fashion forward, expressive, and comfortable will never lead you astray.
Big brands such as H&M, Forever 21, and Free People, are few of many that have created festival collections. These collections guide and inspire festival goers on what to wear to spring and summer's hottest outdoor music events. Seeing featured collections in huge stores excites consumers to want to shop till they drop. Liz Jones, a vice president and divisional merchandise manager at Bloomingdale’s, says “Festival — it’s sort of its own fashion season, much like prom is,” (The New York Times).
Since retail's large impact, music festivals are not for the average hippie anymore. No matter your style, retailers create collections that fit the style of the chic tomboy, the monochromatic man or mami, and the edgy trendsetter. The best thing about festival collections is that they are sold around the same time spring and summer garments are released. For the non-festival goers that enjoy creating "must see" looks, it's easy to mix and match pieces from both collections.
The best thing about festival fashion is that it is a symbol of fashion freedom. Generations are allowed to wear anything they desire in a judgment free zone.
